A rare find for a true world adventurer, this innovative vessel is ideal for bluewater cruising and chartering – particularly in the tropics. Based upon the amazing James Wharram proven designs which adopted principles used by transcontinental ocean-going Polynesian sailors for centuries, this catamaran replaced the usual plywood construction with Epoxy/Fibreglass and hi-tech flexible epoxy and stainless steel to ensure low maintenance, maximum strength and superior seaworthiness.
Construction. Fibreglass/Epoxy Hulls and Galley. Fibreglass/Epoxy and fireproof styrofoam roof, fore-decks and galley. Kiln dried Saligna aft deck and beams.This construction adopted the more expensive and epoxy/fibreglass construction technique in order to avert osmosis, negate plywood dry-rot and impact brittleness and to provide superior strength. The after-deck roof is designed to collect rainwater. and provide shelter from the elements.
Accommodation. This catamaran features 6 separate (private) cabins, capable of sleeping 7-10 adults in 5 separate private cabins -plus a separate shared “heads” (Toilet) and washhandbasin cabin . The 2 central double master cabins ( one in each hull) feature a study/dressing room and ample storage below the extra-length -Queen size beds. )
The spacious Galley (Kitchen) features a full sized Bosch gas oven and hob, under-counter fridge, a separate dedicated Freezer/insulated storage compartment, a double grocery cupboard, sink, shelves and ample storage cabinets. The galley overlooks a spacious stern deck that has hosted parties for more than 20 adults at a time. There is even room for a hammock!
Each hull features 3 cabins ( total 6 cabins) separated by 6 watertight bulkheads, 14 sealed buoyancy compartments and accessed via 6 lockable dedicated entrances -ensuring maximum privacy. Each hull has 4 separate, integrated, fibreglass/epoxy freshwater tanks (8 tanks total) providing +-1200 litres fresh-water storage. A large awning that encloses the after deck and provides shelter and privacy can be rolled up to allow panoramic views. Ample storage space is provided below the double beds, 5 under deck lockers, and Two bow lockers. (My family of five adults, plus our cat, has lived comfortably aboard this yacht, full time, for more than 5 years.)
The rig features an aluminium mast, a headsail roller furler, hank on jib and is designed for a boom-less mainsail although a 6metre mainsail boom is included in the inventory. There is a second roller furler intended to experiment with a roller furler mainsail parallel to the mast.
Whilst this vessel is designed to be primarily a sailing vessel, a pair of hi-tech brushless electric motors and diesel auxiliary diesel generator and/or a long shaft petrol engine is included in the inventory.
Please note: The reason for the bargain Price for a catamaran of this size and quality is due to the fact that this vessel is an incomplete project that requires relatively minor work to complete her. Although much of the required equipment forms part of the inventory the new owner will have to have interesting decisions to make and implement as to her propulsion and sail configuration.
